Located in the historic centre of the city of Santiago de Compostela, the Fonte de San Roque Hotel occupies a nineteenth century building. Glazed balconies in the typical style of Santiago de Compostela, which became widespread in the city at that time, were added to the top floors at the end of the last century. Santiago de Compostela's old city walls used to run in front of the building's façade. The walls were built by order of Bishop Cresconio between 1037 and 1066.
The hotel is named after the San Roque Fountain located in front of its façade, at the centre of a beautiful small-town square of the same name.
The Fonte de San Roque hotel is found at the highest point of the walled city, in a place with great wealth in terms of of landscape and architecture.
Around it stand some of the most significant buildings of Santiago de Compostela, such as the convents of Santo Domingo de Bonaval (15th century), Santa Clara (17th-18th century), and San Martín Pinario (16th-17th century), as well as a long list of more of this charming city's emblematic buildings.
The Fonte de San Roque Hotel was renovated, respecting the traditional materials, with the charm of the era. These elements were integrated into a high-quality hotel, thus merging tradition with the modernity of contemporary times. |
